Now that Bush has thrown under the bus all of us who hold conservative sensibilities about who we are as a nation, it is time to enter my new 12-step program for ridding the last vestiges of misplaced loyalty we might have for the SOB.  The directions are simple:

Declare firmly and without reservation:
“Bush is an idiot!”
Lather, rinse, repeat (11 times).

Republicans can take solace in one thing, though one thing only. Unlike Carter, Bush now governs with an equally incompetent and comically feckless Democratic Congress, whose low poll numbers now exceed his own. That may be the Republicans saving grace during the next election, though however it swings, Bush has been a disaster for the Republican Party. Republicans are simply free now to say as much.
