Working in America

The traditional commitment to civic responsibility in corporate America appears on its way to extinction. The problem begins in corporatism's global focus and leads to the doorsteps and campaign accounts of elected officials who are becoming ever more beholden to cold-blooded entities with globalist leanings rather than their warm-blooded human constituencies. While small businesses are still the source of the vast majority of jobs in America, even the most patriotic American business owner by necessity has relationships with larger companies that don't care whether America continues to exist as a sovereign nation. Many suppliers, creditors and subcontractors that help small business do their work are either already global conglomerates or are well on their way to dependency upon outsourcing of American jobs to the citizens and allies of alien sovereignties that hate our nation and way of life.

While the proliferation of American firms with global interests may not violate the letter of any particular spoken or written desire of our founders, it certainly violates the spirit of the expectations expressed by the majority of the great minds who hashed out the agreements that started this nation. I have no doubt that Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, Madison, Washington and Jay would all be acting to dissolve companies like "Bank of America" and "American Express" on the grounds that the outsourcing of customer service and technical jobs to the far east is a threat to our national sovereignty. At the very least, these corporations are unworthy of being allowed to keep their names. Some state governments have outsourced phone workers managing Medicaid and food stamp programs to other countries. The Republican Party outsourced a large portion of its fundraising phone operations to India earlier this year.

On the flip side of outsourcing, we have companies that circumvent the intent of our visa laws to import and hire cheap foreign labor. Salaries in the technical professions are declining at an horiffic rate. Thousands upon thousands of American technical workers are underemployed or unemployed, replaced by H1B or L1 visa holders. In many instances, American workers are coerced into training their foreign replacements before getting pink slipped themselves. I've become acquainted with many people who cannot find technical work and are still straddled with student loans that they took out in the late 1990s to pay for certification and training for skills needed for jobs that aren't available to American citizens any longer.

Of late, when calling for customer service or technical support, I have adopted the practice of asking where the person who answers the phone is physically located. If I am speaking with someone in a foreign land, I demand to speak with someone in America. And when that overly-friendly foreigner calls me and asks for a contribution to the GOP, I'll tell them that I only contribute to American political parties. If enough of us do this, maybe a few of the greedy, unappreciative fools who run corporations that used to have allegiance to America will get a clue that the jig is nearly up. I expect anyone with whom I do business to have an allegiance to this nation or they better not be portraying themselves as an American company in their marketing and advertising campaigns.

From the growing number of groups like those listed below, it's clear I have plenty of company in my concerns.

American Engineering Association

American Workers Coalition

"We are here to save American jobs. We are not racists, xenophobes or bigots. We are displaced American Workers. Displaced by a little known immigration visa approved by congress at the request of large U.S. corporations. These visas know as h-1b and L-1 are used to import foreign workers to replace American workers with cheap foreign labor."

Boycott Cabelas

"When the “World's Foremost Outfitter” and major retailer of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear wrongfully terminated the employment of a dedicated, hardworking employee with an unblemished record of service to the company, they made a huge mistake. Cabela's became the 'World's Foremost' Civil Rights suppressor.

Cabela's fired this young man, a happily married father of one expecting another child within months, simply because of his political beliefs. In a country founded on the requisite principles of Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Association, a man was terminated from his place of employment simply because he stood up for and expressed his Civil Liberties. This man had the courage to exercise his First Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech on a politically incorrect topic. He spoke out against the utterly insane immigration policies in this country. And this was all done on his personal time! He did not exercise his First Amendment Rights to Free Speech at work; he did it on his own time, away from his coworkers and away from his employer. This site and this boycott were set up to address this travesty."

H1B Hall of Shame

"In the year 2001, 9 out of every 10 new job openings for computer/IT were taken by H-1Bs, and despite record unemployment the INS issued 312,000 visas in 2002"

H1B.Info

The H-1B visa program allows American companies and universities to import foreign scientists, engineers and programmers. Unfortunately, it has no serious safeguards to protect American workers from being replaced and is abused to provide cheap foreign labor. Moreover, H-1B workers continue to flood a terrible job market. During 2001 and 2002, 799,100 H-1B visas were issued and renewed despite a 6 percent national unemployment and 8 percent in Silicon Valley. The H-1B visa limits were set during more prosperous economic times but now can't be justified when so many highly trained Americans remain unemployed."

Hire American Citizens

"The objectives of the Society shall be to advance the American public's welfare and promote the professional, social, and economic interests of the American citizen professional; to promote the hiring of American citizens, to stimulate the dialogue with American business and political leaders for a return to the concepts of American workers first and foremost, and to promote our American heritage of American workers and an American wage."

National Association for the Employment of Americans

"American workers are increasingly threatened with the loss of their jobs and careers through the importation of foreign workers and the exporting of their once viable jobs to third world nations. The last several years has seen a growing national crisis develop as more and more aliens are imported to take over jobs once done by American workers in the fields of: medicine, dentistry, engineering, teaching, computer programming, finance, physical therapy, bartending, and chefs. These imported workers are not filling a “shortage of workers” need as reported by the media -- which has been misguided by special interests – rather, they have displaced tens of thousands of employed American workers and put these Americans into the unemployment lines."

No more H1B

"The purpose of NoMoreH1b.com is to educate U.S. Citizens on the true issues of the H-1B program. We will help you understand how the H-1B visa program has displaced U.S. citizens in technology jobs, as well as such as accountants, doctors, nurses and even 850 fashion models."

Rescue American Jobs

"You, the American taxpayer, built the business infrastructure and business environment that was essential to the success of great American companies. While still reaping the benefits of your tax dollars, your employer is now considering replacing you with a cheap foreign worker. And these great American companies are building barriers to small businesses to prevent you, and other Americans, from having the same opportunity they had to build your own small business."
