I'd "Rather" Not!:
Exploring Alternatives To The Big Three

If you don't view this guy as a caricature by now, you may be too far gone.

"Courage."
- a sign-off for the evening news that Dan Rather tried out for a week or so in September 1985.
"????"
-viewer reaction to Rather's rather bizarre concept.

"Kenneth, what's the frequency?"
-The question Dan Rather reported that his mugger kept insisting he answer as he was kicked and beaten in 1986.
"Did you keep the frequency secret because of your 'courage?'"
-lots of us who heard the story.

"I walk out every day trying to have a big 'I' for independence stamped right in the middle of my forehead. I try to play no favorites, pull no punches."
-Dan Rather
"Ha ha ha ha ha...ad infinitum"
-the appropriate response to hearing Rather's blather

In his blockbuster best-seller, "Bias," former CBS reporter Bernard Goldberg states the obvious. The mainstream media, particularly the network news shows, are slanted to the left. But there is also plenty of additional information in the book that makes it a must-read for anyone who likes to be prepared to argue with liberals. For instance, Goldberg explains that the people in the "mainstream media" actually believe that they are moderates in touch with the views and desires of everyday Americans. So, next time you watch Rather, Jennings, Brokaw or any of their cohorts in the big three network newsrooms, remember that it is likely you're watching someone suffering from a pathological misconception of self.

A good dose of information disseminated by the organizations, shows and people on the list of links below is prescribed for those who are ready to begin the "deprogramming" process. It may take some time; the misconceptions propogated by the talking heads have had decades to mess up your mind with their errant, one-sided views.

The Center for American Unity

"A national non-profit educational organization dedicated to preserving our historical unity as Americans into the 21st Century. The Center conducts research and monitors developments on a broad range of economic, domestic, defense, and foreign policy issues related to the American nation-state. The Center is concerned with what has been called the National Question - whether the United States can survive as a nation-state, the political expression of a distinct American people, in the face of these emerging threats: mass immigration, multiculturalism, multilingualism, and affirmative action."

Glen Beck

"Beck describes himself as a Mormon whose politics lean toward libertarian but also promotes traditional family values."

Lou Dobbs

I can't believe I'm actually posting a link to CNN, but Dobbs has it right on immigration with his "Broken Borders" segments and on outsourcing with his "Exporting America" segments. Riveting!

Don Feder's Cold Steel Caucus Report

"These are desperate times, my friends – times when marginal-tax-rate conservatives, compassionate conservatives, lukewarm conservatives and conservatives who want to be loved just won’t cut it."

Fox News

"Fair and Balanced"

Hannity & Colmes

A conservative who admits it and a liberal who admits it. Refreshing.

Laura Ingraham

" Irreverent, fast-paced, witty, and substantive, The Laura Ingraham Show takes listeners on a wild ride through the colliding worlds of politics, the news media, and Hollywood.

Her legal, political, writing, and television background distinguishes Laura in the field of increasingly homogeneous radio syndication. Whether she's on the watch for evidence of media bias, political hypocrisy or Hollywood inanity, Laura infuses her program with a level of energy and commitment to conservative principles that grabs hold and won't let go."

Jill Nicholson

"This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity."

O'Reilly Factor

"Bill O'Reilly joined FOX News Channel (FNC) as the anchor/host of The O'Reilly Factor in 1996. The O'Reilly Factor (8-9:00PM ET/PT Mondays through Fridays), the most-watched program on cable news, has caused the powerful in America to duck for cover as the rigidly enforced "No Spin Zone" deals with the nation's most important issues in a straightforward and provocative manner."

Phil Valentine Show

"Political Correctness is the liberal version of fascism."

Ratherbiased.com

"RatherBiased.com documents the partisan beliefs of one of the most politicized journalists of our time. From abortion to "W", this site is an exhaustive compilation of statements he has made over the years. Most are from Dan Rather's on-air comments. While Rather's statements away from the news desk usually do not unduly influence public opinion, they do show the partisan, ideological bent that frequently taints his reporting."

Rush Limbaugh Show — FORGIVEN!

"People are saying that I am a hypocrite, as I was using drugs. Yet, I was telling people to lead a moral life and do the right thing. Okay, if what I was saying to do was the right thing about whatever subject, does the fact that I may not have been doing it myself mean that it's not right to do? My behavior doesn't change right and wrong. And just because I may have been doing something that appeared to be contradictory to what I was suggesting others do doesn't mean that what I was suggesting others do is wrong.

You know, the critics want to harp on all this hypocrisy. There's no hypocrisy in this, because there is no weakening of right and wrong simply because some people don't choose to live that way in certain areas of their lives. I mean, if something like the speed limit is 70, and I tell people I don't want you driving faster than 70; you're risking your life; you're risking other people's lives; you're wasting fuel and I got caught speeding for 95 miles an hour, was I wrong that you shouldn't be speeding? No, I was the one wrong, but it didn't change the value of right and wrong simply because I didn't abide by it at a particular time."

Savage Nation

"An independent-minded individualist, Michael Savage fits no stereotype. He attacks big government and liberal media bias, but champions the environment and animal rights. Trained as a scientist, he holds Master's degrees in medical botany and medical anthropology and earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in Epidemiology and Nutrition Science."

Scarborough Country

"Every weeknight, former Congressman Joe Scarborough invites you to Scarborough Country -- a place where hard work and playing by the rules are the way of life, where politicians are held accountable, and where pork barrel spending is a Capitol Offense. It’s a place where Corporate crooks end up on the 'Most Wanted' list, and you'll always get the Real Deal. Scarborough Country, no passport required, just common sense. Weeknights at 10 only on MSNBC."

Mike Siegel

"Americans are in the mainstream. Republicans articulate that view of our social, political, and economic life which resonates with most Americans. In a simple example, the success of the Fox News Channel over CNN symbolizes that reality."

Terry Anderson Show

What I say comes from my experience living in my community, which is South Central Los Angeles. This place feels increasingly less like my home and country as it turns into the Third World before my eyes. This once predominantly black neighborhood is becoming largely Hispanic. South Central is being transformed by many homes holding 20-30 immigrants each. They keep goats, grow corn in the front yards and hang their wash on the front fence. I have roosters waking me in the middle of the night. Here, we talk about "black flight." People are leaving their old neighborhoods where they have lived for years because they don't feel like they belong there any more."
